Journey to Freedom
My Story
I'm doing this challenge to support Snowland Journeys' Reintegration Programme (please learn more by reading the entire page)
My aim is to raise £1,600. That is the cost of one child going back home.
Between now and, the end of July, I am planning to do different activities to raise funds.
- Being Part of Captain Tom's 100 Challenge between 30th April (what would have been Captain Tom's 101st birthday) and 3rd May - each day, I will be doing 100 squats and 100 push-ups
- I am going to take Virtual Trekking Challenge in May and cover Upper Dolpo Route : 228km by mid June
- If you fancy a fitness weekend, join me for the World's first Gurkha activity weekend between 21st and 23rd May (https://www.snowlandjourneys.com/gurkha). All funds go to this cause
- I have never run 12K in my life (the longest been 7K). I have been advised not to run in June due to sciatica, but, I am hoping to run/jog12k in July (keep an eye on my update)
Your donation as little as £3.50 can already make a difference.
What your gift could provide
£3.50 - clothes, houses, feeds & educates a child for one day
£23 - Pays for a week of a child's education, accommodation and food.
£50 - pays for a group social work support session for young people in preparation of going home
£90 - Buys outdoor clothing and equipment for a child to trek home through the Himalayas.
£1,600 - Pays for Reintegration Programme for a young person with their family in the mountains.
If you think any of the activities I am doing is worth donating, please support.
This programme is about reuniting Nepal's Himalayan children with their families after 12 years apart, achieving an education that would otherwise not be possible - a whole childhood away from their parents!
By returning home, the children gain an understanding of why they were sent away, the sacrifice their parents had to make to realise their potential, and they realise they are deeply loved.
Snowland Journeys' Reintegration Programme prepares the students and their families emotionally and physically for this vital reunion, helping with personal and social development, social work support and support for actual journey home. We are hoping to send the next group of students back home in May 2021, and all money raised from our Vrekking Challenge will go towards supporting this project so that we can help them and future groups.
