The mountain villages of Nepal's North-West Himalaya are some of the most remote inhabited areas on earth, rarely seen by tourists. The routes cover the areas of Upper Dolpo, Lower Dolpo and Humla and will allow you to walk the equivalent of the expeditions undertaken by many of the Snowland School students, including Nima, Tsering Deki, and Jeewan who were featured in our documentary, 'Children of the Snow Land'.
Snowland Journeys 2021 Vrekking Challenge allows you to walk, run, cycle, swim, row (and more!) in their footsteps as they make the difficult journey home to see their families. You can complete the challenge in your area, travelling the same distance as them and share in the beauty and wonder of this majestic mountain region as you go with photographs and videos taken at key points. The terrain of these high altitude trails is tough and diverse, winding from sub-tropical areas and alpine forests up to wide open vistas of the Tibetan Plateau. Are you up to the challenge?
Our Upper Dolpo route is a 228km circular trek following the journey that Nima took in our documentary, 'Children of the Snow Land', which takes you to the restricted Kingdom of Upper Dolpo, home of the highest inhabited villages on earth and the world’s last enclave of unchanged Tibetan culture. Scroll down the page for detailed information, pictures and video of each section of the route. You can connect our challenge to Strava to automatically track your progress or enter details from your other fitness apps. Register now to join our Vrekking Challenge and achieve your fitness goals whilst helping to raise funds for Himalayan children to be reunited with their families.
